Baby Shower Help?

Hi--

My question is not really about ideas really because i have lots of those...my problem is: I%26#039;m doing this shower at my church with 4 other ladies and we all have to split the cost. We can only spend about $35 each. So i%26#039;m a little pressed for funds. Also they require you to get certain things: cake, corsage, punch, mints, nuts, plates and napkins, flower arrangement, and a hostess gift of $15 each which comes out of the total $175 that we can spend. I have so many cute things i want to do but don%26#039;t have the money to do it and i am not necessarily rolling in dough to get these things myself. so i suppose my question is what can i do for decoartions that is SUPER cheap. Here are some of my ideas and maybe you can help me think of how to do them w/ little funds

1. table cloth

2. she%26#039;s naming her baby AVA so i wanted to get wooden letters from hobby lobby and paint them for the table

3. framed picture of her sonagram

4. a baby bath filled with ice with bottled waters in them

Say
FlowersBirthday FlowersSympathy FlowersI spent around 200 on my baby shower except for the the food. And It was great! I got alot of stuff from places like Dollar tree (they have cute plates and favors) and EBAY!
Reply:1.you can get plastic table cloths at the dollar store $2

2. i don%26#039;t really know that there is a cheaper way to do this

3. you can get a plain frame and use puff paint to writhe the baby%26#039;s name on it, $4-$5 (frame and paint)

4. a baby bath is going to run you the highest, i would just fill a sink or icechest with the ice and put bottled water in it, unless one of the guests is willing ot purchase the baby bath. ( bottles of water $10-$15 depending on how many bottles)

5. you can hang the clothes line up, you can either have guest hang their gifts up, with a little card attached, or you can do paper cut outs of clothes to hang up ( which would be more of a decoration than functional but would have the same effect.) ( string, and a pack of construction paper $5)

6. balloons, i found that pricing them online was the best way, it ended up being cheaper to purchase ballons, and rent a helium tank to fill them, than purchasing them pre-filled. (any party store should have helium tanks, either small ones to purchase or to rent.) ( this is going to depend on how many balloons you get, you could even forego the balloons to get other items, balloons aren%26#039;t necessary)

either you or one of the other ladies could bake the cake rather than purchasing one, ($10 rather than $20 or 30

and you could make your own corsage, with scraps of lace, and a pair of pink baby socks ( just arrange it so it looks cute, hot glue it together, and add a pin to the back) this would only run you about $5-10 rather than purchasing one that%26#039;s goint to run $15-20.

plates and napkins can be purchased at the dollar store, ans punch is really cheap to make, one container of sherbert and a 2 liter of ginger ale. ($10) mints you can get bags of at either walmart or the dollar store for about $1 a piece.

just remember to check prices and shop around, you may even come in under budget.

Reply:two words, dollar tree! i dont think you can get much cheaper than that with any of the things you listed. i%26#039;ve even seen the wooden letters you mentioned there.
Reply:You should go to Martha Stewarts website and look for shower ideas...They%26#039;re is a lot of cute %26quot;crafty%26quot; ideas that look great and are inexpensive.. Maybe if you see how she does some it%26#039;ll help ya... And my suggestion is if they %26quot;require%26quot; certain things,, whoever is requiring these things need to donate the extra funds...Good luck
Reply:Go to the dollar store. Also who is requiring these things? If certain things will not work in the budget ask the ones requiring to pitch in. Also I don%26#039;t understand why you are required to buy hostess gifts. Isn%26#039;t that what the mom to be should do for you guys for hosting the shower? I would save the money on that. You can get a candle or stationary or something for your prizes for games. I would get some plates and napkins that have baby designs on them and then just buy plain cups and forks. You can easily make a corsage out of a couple silk flowers and tie ribbons on it. I would skip any flower arrangements (its not a wedding or a funeral..LOL!!). I like the idea of bowls with small floating duckies in them or even buy cheap baby bottles and filling with candy and tying balloons on them as center pieces. If you have nice tables you do not need table clothes in my opinion. You can get some plastic ones pretty cheap or see if ladies of the church have some you can borrow. Are you having the shower at your church? If so use what they have. I know our church has candle holders and colored candles and centerpieces that they use for different occasions. Our church as pink flowers and such that they use for Mother%26#039;s Day. You are doing this because you want to honor the mom to be and there shouldn%26#039;t be any set rules as to what you have to include and have. I would just stick with your budget and get the most important things first and then decide what you can add. Best wishes!!!

Reply:at my shower, they had big bowls of water with floating rubber duckies. it was really cute.

you can play the game where everyone guesses how big the belly is with toilet paper, that is cheap. everyone takes as much toilet paper as they think it will take to wrap around the preggie one.

if you are good at decorating, maybe you could decorate a special cake or cookies.

just some suggestions, i have never planned one myself. hope it all goes well for you :-)
Reply:Go to the Dollar Tree. You can buy a lot of items for a cheap price. They even sell helium balloons.loan
